Typically, when you upload a PDF file, WordPress allows you to link to it, and then you download the file in order for your web browser to handle it. Visually, in WordPress, the file is simply a link. However, the Google Doc Embedder plugin allows you to see the file opened in the web page. It also provides the option to magnify the document, see it in a separate window, or download the file to work with the file offline. The Google Doc Embedder can also be used to embed different file types without using Flash or PDF browser plug-ins.

How to load the Google Doc Embedder Plugin

Login to the WordPress Administrator
Click on Plugins
Click on Add New
Search for “Google Doc Embedder”
Click on Install
Activate the Plugin


Using the Google Doc Embedder to Embed PDF files

An common use for the Google Doc Embedder plugin is to embed PDF files within WordPress posts or pages. The process is the same for either post or page. In the WordPress Administrator Dashboard:

Click on Posts or Pages
Add new (or Edit existing document)
Go to existing text, or click in area of the page where you want to embed the document
Click on Add Media
Upload the file if necessary, or use an existing PDF file
Click on Insert into Page
Click on Save Draft or Publish in order to any changes to your WordPress Page or Post
