The media settings in WordPress allows you to set the image sizes that are used within your WordPress site. You are able to select 3 sizes: large, medium and thumbnail.

You also have the option to select if your thumbnails will be cropped proportionally, and if your uploads will be sorted into folders based on year and month.

To set the Media Settings:

Login to the WordPress Administrator Dashboard
Click on Settings
Click on Media
Click on the sizes to change them - they are in pixels.
Make your selections for the options -as per your needs.
Click on Save Changes to save any modifications to the sizes.
