San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) is a regulated public utility in California that provides energy service to San Diego and southern Orange counties. SDG&E uses image recognition and machine learning capabilities in AWS as part of the Intelligent Image Processing (IIP) application to reduce the risk of wildfire ignition and improve system reliability. IIP does this by using AWS services like Rekognition, Lookout for Vision and SageMaker on a repository of over 4 million images taken from drones and fleet vehicles of 135,000 structures in the service territory.
