PRICING
There is no way around this. WP Engine plans are EXPENSIVE. And at first glance it's hard to see why their web hosting services cost so much. They don't give an outrageous amount of resources for you to work with and the prices rival those of TOP providers most expensive shared web hosting plans.
Well in this WP Engine review I found out that you're not paying for RAW power. It's more for convenience and features. In my opinion, the Starter and Scale plans are the ones you should pay the most attention to.
The Starter plan is great for people who just want to host 1 mid-sized website and the Scale plan is an excellent choice for freelancers and creative agencies. Since as this WP Engine review uncovers, their services work best when you're choosing to host MULTIPLE websites.

CONTROL PANEL & FEATURES
When you're getting a plan from WP Engine, you get to host more than 1 website even though you get the starter plan. Sounds confusing? Well, it's because you actually get 3 separate work environments. Production, Staging, and Development. This allows you to make changes & test those changes without interrupting the experience of your users. Your live site is never in danger.
Overall, while doing this WP Engine review I've noticed that their control panel is simple to use, intuitive, and quite feature-rich. But to get the most of it you need to have web hosting experience.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
PERFORMANCE
WP Engine is FAST, really FAST. And it's to be expected with such a high price tag, it's around 22% faster than the top shared web hosting plans. And this is because you're not sharing resources with other users on the network.
WP Engine managed to load my website in around 1.4s. But it struggled once I sent over a significant chunk of users that made thousands of requests per second. This shows that WP Engine is fast, but only when operating within the limits of the plans. The resources you get are exhausted quite quickly.

EXTRA FEATURES
While filming this WP Engine review. I also went ahead and bought some additional features that cost me around $400 a year. This was a security tool and a plugin management tool.
Are they necessary for your website? Absolutely not, the security tool I would only recommend to people who run a profitable website. The plugin manager works best for multisite owners to save time.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
RECOMMENDATION
I mostly recommend WP Engine for people who run multisite setups. These are creative agencies and freelance developers. If you're just a regular everyday person with a regular website, the starter plan is worth a look only if you got the money to blow and have previous web hosting experience. Overall, am I happy with my purchase? Yup, I plan to use WP Engine for some of my high profile websites and see how the experience evolves over time.
